ADP and ADPB Holiday Time
By: Marco P. | June 26th, 2008
Euro 2008 was not to be. After an exceptional 2007-08 season with Juve, Alessandro Del Piero’s Euro campaign finished (once again, alas) with lack of luster. Pinturicchio’s really been unlucky with the Azzurri shirt during his career: ever so much a protagonist at Juve, but never really taking the reins of the Italian national team as he should have. This Euro, his performance record includes two appearances as a substitute (vs. Netherlands and vs. Spain), one match as a starter vs. Romania, and not much else.
At 33 years of age (soon 34), this very well may have been Del Piero’s last important tournament with the Italian national team. Sure there’s the Confederations Cup next year and sure, Marcello Lippi is now back at the helm (he always liked ADP, so who knows… fingers crossed), but odds are that Italian 36 year-old strikers will have to watch World Cup 2010 in front of their TV sets.
Until then, time for Del Piero to enjoy his holiday.
According to Gazzetta and excite.it, the next destination of ADP & family (Sonia and newborn baby Tobias will also come along) will apparently be New York City. Not only that but Christian Panucci, Marco Materazzi, and Marco Amelia are also headed that way so if you live in the area, keep your eyes open. ;]
As for myself, I will be leaving for Italy very soon (Salerno and Marina di Camerota to be precise, two cities south of Naples) so I am afraid that this will the last post on the ADP blog for quite some time. I expect to be back posting (sporadically) around August maybe, and to be back in Canada (with daily full time internet access) around September.
Before I go though, a few words from the man himself at alessandrodelpiero.com:
Dear Friends,
The time to enjoy my holidays came a bit earlier than I expected (one week earlier to be precise).
As usual during the last month I’ve gotten a lot of messages, wishes and congratulations for the football season we played, for my victory as a leading goalscorer in the Serie A and for the European Championship.
Once again I would like to thank you all for you support and affection that you give me, and also to say goodbye. I’ll be away for a few weeks (holiday time is never too long…) but we will keep in touch during this period.
See you soon,
Alessandro
Buone vacanze a tutti!!

P.S. For those who are wondering about that little image above, yes that is indeed Del Piero with (then-girlfriend) Sonia Amoruso. The picture was taken in 2000, during ADP’s post-injury holiday in Miami beach. It’s from the book “Semplicemente Del Piero” published by the photographer Gianni Giansanti, that relives years 1999-2001 (+ some pictures from before too) of Del Piero’s life through plenty of photographs. Pictures that not only portray his life as a footballer (with Juventus and the National Team), but also during his free time, with his family, friends and teammates.
If you get a chance to go to Italy, I highly recommend you buy that book. It’s a must-have for any self-respecting ADP fan! :] Alternatively you may try to buy it online at Libreria dello Sport or La Feltrinelli. The price is €25.00.

Did not realize until recently that Sonia is Nicola Amoruso’s sister. I wonder if they met from their time at Juve together.
Awesome on the vacation in Italy. Is it for work or pleasure?

She’s (Sonia Amoruso) not Nicola Amoruso’s sister. well we don’t know for sure. but sometimes ago i read about those two Amorusos came from different birthplace. Nicola is from Province of Foggia(south region of Italy), and Sonia is from Province of Turin(north). weel it’s possible that Nicola’s family moved from Foggia to Turin, based on his youth system club is Sampdoria (in Genoa, near Turin), and Sonia was born there. but it is still unclear whether it’s true that she’s Nicola’s sister or not.
besides, we never found any picture of Sonia and Nicola together (or with Alex ini it considering that he is Nicola’s brother in law, if true) . hey, they are brother and sister… and there’s no single photograph of them together in a frame?

Darn godsoulao… you’ve managed to make the doubt rise in my mind!! I have always believed without any shadow of a doubt that she was Nicola’s sister (it has been repeatedly stated by many “serious” publications I read -Gazzetta, Repubblica, etc.), but looking around on the internet I have indeed found mixed stories about this. Some sites claim she is indeed Nicola’s sister, others claim she’s not.
My question is: if she isn’t, why on Earth would someone make up the story the she is? Sensationalistic press effect? And as for the fact there are no pictures of Nicola and Sonia together, Sonia is and always has been a very reserved person. That’s the same reason you won’t find a great deal of ADP + Sonia together either. So that’s not much a proof in and of itself.
I’ll keep digging.

She is not Nicola’s sister. Alessandro saw her through the window of the shop where she worked and fell in love, but he was too shy to go in, also because it was a shop for women’s clothing, so he kept going back there to look at her through the window, but not every day because that would make people suspicious…finally he got the courage to go in and with the help of one of her co-workers he got to talk to her and asked her out

Yes I know that part too Tessa. ADP and Sonia met in a women’s shoe-shop in Turin. That still doesn’t exclude the possibility she might be Nicola Amoruso’s sister, it just clarifies they haven’t met through Nicola (which I and the majority here already knew anyway).

If she is his sister, wouldn’t Alessandro and Nicola look a little friendlier to each other on the pitch? I’ve never seen them talking together or anything before a Juve-Reggina game.

Well… they don’t necessarily have to like each other to be brothers-in-law you know.
I hate to bring out an old cliché, but you know the general feeling towards in-laws right?
With that said and all jokes aside, I guess the evidence (circumstantial as it may be) is pointing more and more towards the fact Nicola and ADP are not related. The real truth though, will probably only come out through a direct quote from the parties concerned. If anybody can find one, I’d sure be grateful.

Frustrating man. I’ve found something in the Gazzetta that says yes but stuff that says no. Even English-language media doesn’t know.

Knowing DP you will never get a direct quote about it

Be rest assured - Sonia Amoruso IS NOT Nicola’s sister. This has been repeated over and over again in Juve’s most popular fans’ forum J1897.com
Amoruso is very common in Italy and it is just a coincidence that Alex and Nicola shared the same shirt. Nic has with time fallen out with Juve and was extremely bitter even during the recent court sittings investigating Moggi and GEA’s presumed illicit activities…but this is beside the point really…Posted from
